Product Information
Active Ingredient: Doxycycline Monohydrate
Description: This product is light brown or brown semi-solid paste.
Pharmacological Actions:
Pharmacodynamics: It is a tetracycline antibiotic. Doxycycline binds reversibly to receptors on the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, interfering with the formation of ribosomal complexes between tRNA and mRNA, preventing peptide chain elongation and inhibiting protein synthesis, thereby rapidly inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria.
Doxycycline exerts inhibitory effects on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Susceptible bacteria include Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Enterobacter, Pasteurella, Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Actinomyces, Alcaligenes, as well as Mycoplasma and Chlamydia.
Pharmacokinetics: After oral administration, doxycycline is almost completely and rapidly absorbed with high bioavailability. It maintains effective blood drug concentration for a long time, features strong tissue penetration, wide distribution and easy intracellular access. It is mainly excreted via faeces.
Bioequivalence test results show that when dogs and cats are administered this product and VibraVet® 100 Paste (Doxycycline Oral Paste, manufactured by Zoetis Australia Pty Ltd) at a dose of 5 mg/kg, the two formulations are bioequivalent.
Indications: For the treatment of infectious diseases in dogs and cats caused by doxycycline-susceptible bacteria, such as skin infections (pyoderma, folliculitis), gastrointestinal infections, respiratory tract infections (rhinitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia), postpartum infections, osteomyelitis, otitis media and urogenital tract infections.
Dosage and Administration: Calculated as doxycycline. Oral administration:
Loading dose: 5 mg per kg body weight for dogs and cats.
Subsequent dose: 2.5 mg per kg body weight for dogs and cats, administered every 12 hours for 2 consecutive doses, then once daily.
Administer continuously for 5–7 days, or continue treatment for another 2 days after all symptoms disappear.
Dogs and cats may be dosed in accordance with Table 1 below. It is recommended to administer this product together with food or immediately after feeding.
