Product Information
Main Ingredients: Pregabalin
Description: This product is a colorless, clear liquid.
Pharmacological Actions:
Pharmacodynamics: Anti-stress drug. Pregabalin binds to the auxiliary subunit (α2δ protein) of voltage-gated calcium channels in central nervous system tissues, thereby reducing the release of various neurotransmitters (glutamate and monoamine neurotransmitters) and producing anti-anxiety and anti-stress effects.
Pharmacokinetics: After oral administration of pregabalin to cats, it is rapidly absorbed, reaching peak plasma concentration in 0.5 to 1 hour, with an absolute bioavailability of 94%. Pregabalin has a relatively large volume of distribution and is eliminated very slowly in cats.
Drug Interactions: Other central nervous system depressants will enhance the effects of pregabalin.
Indications: Used to alleviate stress reactions in cats caused by transportation or veterinary visits, etc.
Dosage and Administration: Calculated as pregabalin. Oral administration: Single dose, administered approximately 1.5 hours before the start of transportation or veterinary visit, 5mg per 1kg of body weight for cats. See the table below for details.
Table 1 Cat Body Weight and Dosage Table
Cat Body Weight | Administration Volume |
2kg | 0.4ml |
3kg | 0.6ml |
4kg | 0.8ml |
5kg | 1.0ml |
6kg | 1.2ml |
7kg | 1.4ml |
Adverse Reactions: The adverse reactions of this product are usually mild and transient. Sedative symptoms (characterized by somnolence, abnormal proprioception, and ataxia) and vomiting are common. Muscle tremors, mydriasis (dilated pupils), anorexia, weight loss, and leukopenia are occasionally seen. Hypersalivation is rare.
Precautions:
Cats with hypersensitivity to this product must not be used.
The safety of this product in cats weighing less than 2kg, younger than 5 months, and older than 15 years has not been determined. It is not recommended for use in such cats.
Relevant experimental studies in rats and rabbits have shown that repeated administration of high doses (>1250mg/kg/day) of pregabalin poses embryotoxic and maternal toxic effects. The safety of this product in breeding, pregnant, and lactating cats has not been determined. Such cats should be used according to a comprehensive risk/benefit assessment by a veterinarian.
The safety of this product in cats with moderate and severe systemic diseases (such as moderate to severe renal, hepatic, or cardiovascular diseases) has not been determined. It is not recommended for use in such cats.
The effect of this product can last for about 6 hours. If the cat appears drowsy or exhibits other exaggerated reactions after treatment, the cat should be kept indoors, and should not be allowed to drink water or eat until the cat has fully recovered.
This product may cause a slight decrease in heart rate, respiratory rate, and body temperature. The environment of the cat under treatment should be kept at a suitable temperature.
When used simultaneously with other central nervous system depressants, the dosage of this product should be appropriately adjusted, and the cat should be closely observed for respiratory depression and sedation symptoms.
After administration, if the cat spits out part of the dose, vomits, or drools excessively, do not administer again.
Human contact with pregabalin may cause adverse reactions such as dizziness, fatigue, ataxia, blurred vision, and headache. If symptoms occur (dizziness, fatigue, ataxia, or blurred vision), medical attention should be sought.
Avoid contact of this product with human skin, mucous membranes, and eyes. After using this product, wash hands immediately. If mucous membranes or eyes accidentally come into contact with this product, rinse immediately with clean water. If skin accidentally comes into contact with this product, remove contaminated clothing immediately and wash the contact area with soap and clean water. If this product is accidentally ingested, seek medical attention immediately and show the product manual or label.
