Product Information
Main Ingredients: Meloxicam
Description: This product is a pale yellow-green suspension.
Pharmacological Properties:
Pharmacodynamics: This product is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with antipyretic and analgesic properties. It exerts its analgesic effect primarily by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase (COX), thereby reducing the production of prostaglandins. This product selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), while having a weaker inhibitory effect on cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). Therefore, compared with other drugs of the same class, it causes fewer adverse reactions to the gastrointestinal tract or kidneys.
Pharmacokinetics: Meloxicam is well absorbed after oral administration, with a rapid time to peak plasma concentration and high bioavailability in cats. The elimination half-life is approximately 24 hours after a single oral dose. After absorption, it is distributed to all tissues of the animal, including the central venous system, muscle layers, and inflamed joints.
Drug Interactions:
Concurrent use of more than one NSAID may increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding due to synergistic effects.
Oral administration of anticoagulants, ampicillin, heparin, or thrombolytic agents may increase the risk of bleeding.
Meloxicam may increase the hematologic toxicity of methotrexate and the nephrotoxicity of cyclosporine.
It may cause acute renal insufficiency in dehydrated animals using diuretics; therefore, cats receiving meloxicam and diuretics should maintain adequate blood volume.
Indications: Used for preoperative and postoperative analgesia in cats.
