Product Information
[Description] This product is an off-white to pale yellow powder.
[Pharmacological Actions] Tetracycline antibiotic. It has a strong effect on Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus haemolyticus, Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium tetani, and Clostridium perfringens, but is not as effective as -lactams. It is relatively sensitive to Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Brucella, and Pasteurella, but not as effective as aminoglycosides and amide alcohols antibiotics. It also has an inhibitory effect on Rickettsia, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, Spirochetes, Actinomycetes, and certain protozoa.
Oxytetracycline absorption after oral administration is irregular and incomplete. It is easily absorbed in fasting animals, with a bioavailability of about 60%~80%, mainly absorbed in the upper small intestine. Polyvalent metal ions such as magnesium, aluminum, iron, zinc, and manganese in the gastrointestinal tract can form insoluble chelates with this product, thereby reducing drug absorption; gastric contents can reduce absorption by 50% or more. After oral administration, peak blood concentration is reached in 2~4 hours. After absorption, it is widely distributed in the body, easily penetrating into the chest, abdominal cavity, and milk, and can also pass through the placental barrier into the fetal circulation, but the concentration in cerebrospinal fluid is low. Oxytetracycline is mainly excreted unchanged by glomerular filtration in the kidney. In case of renal dysfunction, excretion slows down and the half-life is prolonged.
